1 Ruthless Crime Lord, 20 Elite Cops, 30 Floors of Hell. Need I say more?

The Raid is the new Indonesian martial arts flick from Welsh director Gareth Evans. The film had its world premiere at the recent Toronto Film Festival and received rave reviews; with many claiming that it’s the best action flick to come out in years. So I’ve been eagerly awaiting the first trailer to be released… and now it has! So if you like your action intense, brutal and ‘in your face’, then this is definitely the film for you.

As with most action flicks, the plot is pretty simple – a swat team gets into strife when they enter the lair of a crime lord. But what it lacks in plot, The Raid appears to make up for in action… and how! And with a soundtrack from Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, this film’s gonna rock in more ways than one.

Enjoy!

I’m loving this trailer and the balls-to-the-wall action. Hopefully we didn’t just see all the best bits. The film looks to be playing to its core audience, and not the general populous, which is a very good thing. One ticket please!

So are you loving this trailer? What action films do you think really deliver on their promise?

Deep in the heart of Jakarta’s slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building’s lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the sixth floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission.

Directed by Gareth Evans (Merantau), The Raid stars Iko Uwais (Merantau), Doni Alamsyah, Yayan Ruhian, and Ray Sahetapy.

No official release dates have been announced, other than Indonesia, but expect to see this blasting its way to a screen near you in 2012.
