The words ‘Cool Trailer’ and ‘Nicolas Cage‘ don’t often go together, but this trailer for his new action-thriller Justice does looks pretty damn good. How could it not, with New Zealand’s own Roger Donaldson (Sleeping Dogs, The World’s Fastest Indian) at the helm. This looks much darker and deeper than what we’ve come to expect from a Nic Cage film  – as he plays a man who joins a group of vigilantes after his wife is assaulted. Adding his serious acting power to the film is Guy Pearce, who will hopefully further elevate the movie above ‘run-of-the-mill’ status.

Originally titled The Hungry Rabbit Jumps (huh?) in the US, and Seeking Justice in Europe, the film was recently retitled – Justice is way better! Unfortunately its release has been severely delayed, having been shot in late 2009, which is usually not a good sign.

Enjoy!

Ok, the trailer’s not perfect but I’m gonna give this one the benefit of the doubt. I’m liking what I see – solid plot, decent action and dark tone.

After some shockers, Cage is having a wee bit of a revival at the moment. Drive Angry was silly fun, Kick Ass was superbly entertaining and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice tasted box office success. I’m sure he’ll make several more shockers in the years to come, but it’s nice to see him in some decent films for a change. He has pretty of doubters but I, for one, would really like to see him put in another Leaving Las Vegas performance at some stage.

So will you give this Nic Cage film the benefit of the doubt too? What’s your favourite, or most hated, Cage flick?

After his wife is assaulted, a husband enlists the services of a vigilante group to help him settle the score.

Justice is directed by Roger Donaldson, and stars Nicolas Cage, January Jones (X-Men: First Class), Jennifer Carter (Quarantine), Guy Pearce (Momento), Irone Singleton (TV’s The Walking Dead), and Xander Berkeley (Gattaca).

The film opens in the UK on 18 November, but no New Zealand or US release dates have been announced. I hope it doesn’t end up going straight-to-DVD.
