Prometheus has landed.” It’s here! It’s here! The full trailer for Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi epic Prometheus has been released, and it is ‘epic’ in every sense of the word.

As well as getting to see more of the film’s spectacular visual styling, we are introduced to the story (or at least as much of the story as Ridley wants us to know at this stage). Prometheus is certainly shaping up to be the space saga we’ve all been waiting for.

In the film a crew is sent to discover the origins of mankind, courtesy of an otherworldy invitation. But we all know that an invitation in the Alien universe is never what it seems, and the crew quickly find themselves in a desperate struggle to save mankind.

Enjoy! (Open to full screen and crank up the resolution)

There’s so much to talk about in this trailer. We get the basic story outline, but you see there’s more to discover. Who are the humanoid-looking creatures and why are they sending the Space Jockey to destroy Earth? What the heck’s gonna happen after the Space Jockey ship crashes and is this just the first part of the tale? A great trailer leaves us with such questions.

After seeing this, sci-fi fans will be relishing the thought of seeing Prometheus on the biggest screen possible. I’m more than tempted to make the journey to Auckland to see it at the IMAX theatre. Now that would be something.

So are you gonna be watching this on opening night? What’s your favourite part of the trailer? Should they leave it at this or produce yet another trailer?

A team of explorers find a clue to the origins of man on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the film’s cast includes: Noomi Repace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, Rafe Spall, Kate Dickie and Sean Harris. New Zealand’s own Weta Digital is involved with the film’s special effects.

Prometheus is released in New Zealand on 7 June, 2012.
