“I like the way you die, boy”. The first trailer for Quentin Taratino‘s highly anticipated Django Unchained has arrived. A tale of slavery, bounty hunters and revenge, set in the Deep South and bathed in Tarantino oil.

A slave, Django (Jamie Foxx), is freed and recruited by bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). The pair team up to take care of the baddest men in town, all the while Django plans to find and free his wife from the clutches of the sadistic Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) – owner of the amusingly-titled plantation ‘Candyland’.

There have been several cast changes on this film, the most notable being Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell both opting out of the role as slave trainer Ace Woody – with no word yet on their replacement. However, New Zealand’s own Zoe Bell (a Tarantino favourite) will play a character called Tracker Peg. Expect her character have wicked stunt skills.

Django Unchained is part Blaxploitation flick and part Western epic, with more than a hint of Kill Bill and Inglorious Bastards thrown in for good measure.

Christoph Waltz is all class yet again – expect some of the best moments in the film to come from him. I like the look of DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie. Although we don’t see much of him here, you can just tell he’s going to be one mean son of a slave trader.

Yep, this looks like classic Tarantino. Razor-sharp dialogue and bloody satisfaction aplenty – oh, and some stunning landscape cinematography to boot.

More please!

You likey? How cool is Jamie Fox’s afro?

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, “Django Unchained” stars Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…

Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the film stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Zoe Bell, Don Johnson, Walton Goggins, Bruce Dern, James Russo, Franco Nero and James Remar.
