Prometheus is here! Ridley Scott‘s space epic, and return to the Alien universe, is our pick of the films opening today. How could it not be?

In his return, Scott looks to blend intellectual sci-fi and scf-fi horror, as a crew of human explorers go looking for the origins of mankind. There’s been hype galore but critics remain fairly divided – although all agree the film’s a visually spectacular feast. Whether the film has more to offer than that, you best go and judge for yourselves.

 A team of explorers find a clue to the origins of man on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the film’s cast includes: Noomi Repace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, Rafe Spall, Kate Dickie and Sean Harris. New Zealand’s own Weta Digital is involved with the film’s special effects.
