Mike and Sulley, the greatest comedy duo since Buzz and Woody. I love Monsters Inc. It’s my favourite Disney-Pixar film. So you can imagine the grin on my face when I finally got to see this teaser trailer for the sequel, Monsters University. If the final film is anywhere near as amusingas this trailer, then it shouldbe right up there with the original.

Before they were scaring children, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) were roommates at University – or, as our US fans call it, College. This is the story of how they met… and became friends. Aww.

To up the excitement factor further many other characters from the original are back too, including Mr Waternews (this time voiced by Kelsey Grammer), The Abominable Snowman (John Ratzenberger), Fungus (Frank Oz), and my personal favourite Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi). Additional comic clout is provided by The Hangover‘s Ken Jeong, who voices a character called Mack.

There are four versions of this trailer, but the only change is what Mike says when uncovered. Here’s the best one:

Mike as a disco ball. Hilarious. I’m sold. When does this come out again? 2013Damn it!

You like? Who’s funnier, Mike or Sulley? Any other Randall fans out there?

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Directed by Dan Scanlon (Cars), the film features the voice talent of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Ken Jeong, John Goodman, John Ratzenberger, Joel Murray, Kelsey Grammer, Rob Riggle and Frank Oz.

Monsters University opens in New Zealand cinemas on 11 June, 2013, in 3D and 2D.
