Comic-Con is known for its reveals. And it doesn’t get much bigger these days than anything to do with The Avengers franchise – in this case Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3. Just last week a concept image set the internet alight with talk of a possible nano-suit for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) – armour fused with his body that he can activate with a thought. So you can imagine the fans excitement when at this year’s Comic-Con, Marvel set up a display of all seven previous suits. And sure enough, when the time was right, up popped the latest Mark VIII armour due to debut in the new film.

But is it the nano-suit? Well, yes and no. Stark isn’t quite one with his armour yet, but it can be called forth by will – apparently it flies across the room in bits, attaching itself to Stark’s being (from footage reports). Not bad. And who knows, a full nano-suit might yet appear in the film – Stark does go through his armour.

This variation has a few other differences too: gold metal is So Last Film and even the red plating takes a back seat this time out – with most of the suit being kind of a tan colour (which even looks cream in some shots). A bold call. The suit also looks quite reptilian, don’t you think? Or like a anatomy model in a doctor’s office? …Hmmm, you decide!

Anyway… we should get see Stark and his new suit in action very soon as the Comic-Con footage hits the net – probably in the form of a teaser trailer.
