Comic-Con is where Admit One wishes it had been these past few days – reading net reports in cold, wet Wellington isn’t quite the same (not that we’d know yet but hey, there’s always next year!). One of the big films at Comic-Con 2012 is Zach Snyder‘s Man of Steel – the Superman film fans are hoping will breath new life into the big screen adaptation of the comic book hero.

The obligatory panel was held, where some (apparently) stunning footage was shown – hopefully uploaded to the net soon. But for now we have the first poster to savour. Bathed in shadow and light, Superman’s upper torso and face feature in a nice, moody piece to kick off what is sure to be a stream of promo. Naturally the focus is the iconic emblem, but we also get a good look at the new military-style mesh suit Sups will be wearing.

As mentioned, reaction to the Comic-Con footage has been very favourable indeed. Snyder has apparently gone for a quite a bleak look and muted pallet, reminiscent of a certain executive producer (Christopher Nolan) and his take on what a superhero film should look and feel like.

I can’t wait to see the footage and catch our first glimpse of Henry Cavill (as Superman) in action.

Clark Kent/Kal-El is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue and Dylan Sprayberry.

Man of Steel flys into our cinemas on June 13, 2013.
