In our new segment, we take a look at the films opening each week and deliver unto you our top pick… or picks (if we’re feeling generous).

And what a way to start! This week’s cinematic plots include: Nazis on the Moon, comedians competing for US Congress, and Seth Rogan playing ‘the straight man’ – the movie world’s gone mad!

Films opening this week:

.

IRON SKY….. FILM OF THE WEEK

Finland/Germany/Australia, 92 minutes. Limited Release. Director: Timo Vuorensola.

Things are about to get Nazi! Since WWII the Nazi menace has been hiding out on the far side of the Moon and plotting their revenge on planet Earth. This looks sensationally ludicrous… and I’ll have me some of that!

Kiwi actress Stephanie Paul plays a remarkably Sarah Palin-like US President.

.

TAKE THIS WALTZ

Canada, 112 minutes. Director: Sarah Polley.

Seth Rogan and Michelle Williams get all serious, playing a married couple whose relationship is pushed to the brink after a handsome stranger moves in across the street. Damn those handsome strangers!

.

THE CAMPAIGN

USA, 85 minutes. Director: Jay Roach.

Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis are South Carolina politicians competing for a seat in the US Congress. So this one’s a documentary then.

.

I WISH

Japan, 128 minutes. Limited Release. Director: Kore-eda Hirokazu.

Bullet trains and miracles. Two young brothers decide to re-unite their divorced parents in this Japanese drama from Kore-eda Hirokazu (Still Walking).

Which of these do you like the look of?
