“I’ve seen enough blood and death. I know what’s coming”. The perfect line to introduce a new Schwarzenegger film!
Arnie blasts his way onto our screens in the Expendables 2 in about a week. This supporting role is followed up by a lead role in The Last Stand – which, unsurprisingly, also consists of Arnie wielding a gun and killing bad guys. It was hardly going to be a costume drama, now was it?
The first trailer has been released and it’s exactly what you’d expect – which could be a very good thing.
Arnie plays the aging sheriff of a small town standing between a drug cartel on the run and the Mexcian border. The FBI are in hot pursuit but need Schwarzengger to roll back the years and pull together a rag-tag team to stop the cartel… any way they can!
Kim Jee-woon (I Saw the Devil, The Good The Bad & The Weird) makes his US feature debut and it’ll be really interesting to see what he will bring to the Hollywood director’s chair. And there are a few big (ish) names in this: Forrest Whitakker (The Last King of Scotland) and Peter Stormare (Armageddon) are on board, and Johnny Knoxville (Jackass) also stars – action film sidekicks seem to be his thing these days, after appearing with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Walking Tall.
So Arnie is back… doing what he does best. Here’s the trailer:

You know what, this looks like fun. Silly, predictable and OTT… but fun. And although we don’t see much of him here, I really like Peter Stormare as an actor – he always plays a good baddie.
No expectations for this, so I reckon I’ll enjoy it.
Thoughts? Will this be a worthy addition to the Arnie collection?
At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.
Directed by Kim Jee-woon, the film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Genesis Rodriquez, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare, Forest Whitaker, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Zach Gilford, Harry Dean Stanton and Luis Guzman.
The Last Stand makes a stand in New Zealand cinemas on 28 February, 2013.
