Star Wars in 3D. A contentious subject – it ranks up there with religion and politics as dinner party conversation to avoid. For those in the pro camp, here’s some good news: Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith will be released back-to-back in 2013 – no two-year wait between these two! But that’s not the only good news: it also means the original trilogy (the films fans most want to see in 3D) will likely be coming sooner than we first thought – although, yes, still far far away.
The first screenings of Episode II and III are scheduled for 20 September 2013 and 11 October 2013 respectively, in both the US and UK. Although no New Zealand dates have been announced, I’d imagine they’ll be similar – most likely the day before, given our releases come out on a Thursday. Probably the coolest thing about this is (if you’re going to watch them) that you’ll most likely be able to enjoy back-to-back screenings of the films come October.
The 3D conversion of The Phantom Menance was ok for the most part – but not amazing. Because Clones and Sith were shot digitally it’s likely the conversion will be much better – he says, knowing very little about the process but with hope in his voice.
I won’t wade into the 3D or trilogy debate here, but I will say that if you have a giant screen in your town (like us) it’s cool to see these films on a screen that size again. My home cinema is great… but it’s not in the same league.
Will you be seeing Episode II or III in 3D? Keen to see the original trilogy in 3D?
