In front of The Expendables 2 last night was the latest trailer for Rian Johnson‘s sci-fi action flick Looper. And I’d not seen it before. It had somehow slipped past me – damn it! Everyone I was with agreed it was the best trailer yet, so here it is for you to enjoy (again, if you’ve seen it already!).

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) plays Joe, a hitman who ‘takes care’ of people… people sent from the future by mob bosses using time travel illegally. Joe’s on a good wicket and living the good life; but when his future self, played by Bruce Willis (Die Hard), appears before him as his next target, Joe’s life turns to chaos – as you’ll see from the trailer…

I think trailer’s really well constructed. I like how it doesn’t give you the back-story up front; instead presents a cool and intense scene between Levitt and Willis. It builds nicely from there and the soundtrack in the later part of the trailer works brilliantly with the quick-cut clips – giving you the feeling that you’re gonna be in for one heck of a ride.

They’ve kept the great “huh!?” moments (moments that makes you wonder what the heck is going on) from the previous trailers. The floating furniture and shock-wave blast remain unexplained – nicely done! But the shot of Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau) making a lighter levitate is new (I think?). I can’t wait to find out what this all means.

Keen to see how they handle the whole time travel thing too. Hopefully we won’t need to call on Dr. Emmett Brown to help make sense of it all.

I’m really excited to see this now and fortunately we don’t have to wait long. Previously the release was down for October 11… but it’s now September 27. Yes!

Are you as excited for Looper as I am?

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self for assassination.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano and Jeff Daniels.

Looper jumps onto our screens on September 27.
