Sad news came through this morning that actor Michael Clarke Duncan passed away at age 54. The 6 foot 5, muscular actor suffered a heart attack almost two months ago, and although he left intensive care he remained hospitalised at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and was unable to recover.

Duncan starred in films such as Armageddon, The Island, Sin City and Planet of the Apes but he will be best remembered for his incredible, Oscar-nominated performance as death row prisoner John Coffey in The Green Mile.

Tributes have already flooded in, include a statement released by The Green Mile co-star Tom Hanks: “Terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike.” said Hanks. “He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile… …He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned.”

Before he turned to acting, Duncan worked as a bodyguard for the likes of Will Smith and Jamie Foxx.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Michael’s fiance (Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth), family and friends. He will be missed.
