Inspired by vintage horror movie posters, such as those for Creature of the Black Lagoon and Forbidden Planet, Disney have released new character posters for Tim Burton‘s new animation feature Frankenweenie, released October 18.

The classically-styled posters feature many of the eclectic characters that populate the town of New Holland, including Victor Frankenstein, Edgar E. Gore, and Weird Girl; and show off the film’s array of monsters, including Vampire Cat, Mummy Hampster and Colossus (well, his leg anyway). Adding extra old school cool are faux movie titles and suitably cheesy taglines, such as Day of the Turtle – “Evil comes out of its shell!” You gotta love that!

Frankenweenie is Burton’s return to the stop motion genre and tells the story of Victor, a young boy who brings his beloved pet Sparky back to life with unexpected consequences for his small town. If you haven’t seen a trailer yet, you can check one out here.

Which one of these would you put on your wall?

After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new leash on life can be monstrous.

Directed by Tim Burton, the film stars the voice talent of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, James Hiroyuki Liao and Conchata Ferrell.

Frankenweenie livens up New Zealand theatres on October 18, 2012.
