So this week we have a tense drama about the rescue of six US diplomats in Iran and its polar opposite… a very untrue horror-comedy about a gang of criminals facing off against some Maori cannibals. Now that would be a freaky double-header!
Also on the menu this week: two comedy-dramas (or is that drama-comedies?), one from France and the other Australia, along with two Bollywood extravaganzas.

Here are the films that opened today:
.
ARGO……FILM OF THE WEEK
USA | 120 minutes | Drama | Director: Ben Affleck (The Town, Gone Baby Gone)
An exfiltration specialist attempts to rescue six US diplomates from Iran by posing as a film crew on a location scout for a (fake) sci-fi epic. True story! As a director, Ben Affleck is turning into quite the maestro – he even gets great performances out of himself. I watched it tonight and it’s gripping from start to finish – a ‘must see’.
.
FRESH MEAT
New Zealand | 91 minutes | Horror, Comedy | Director: Danny Mulheron (Rage, TV’s TheĀ Tribe)
Criminals and cannibals collide in this Kiwi gore-filled laugh-fest. My money’s on whichever side has Temuera Morrison – so that’ll be the cannibals then.
.
THE INTOUCHABLES
France | 112 minutes | Comedy, Drama | Directors: Olivier Nakache, Eric Toledano (Tellement proches)
A quadriplegic aristocrat strikes up a friendship the his new caretaker, a man from ‘the projects’. This award-winning film is based on a true story.
.
MENTAL
Australia, USA | 115 minutes | Comedy, Drama | Director: P.J. Hogan (Muriel’s Wedding, My Best Friend’s Wedding)
Muriel and her wedding director reunite for a new Aussie flick about a nanny looking after five girls who all believe they suffer from mental illness. What! No wedding?
.
BEST OF LUCK
India | Unknown runtime | Action, Comedy | Directors: Sunny Sidhu, Rohit Jugrai
A Bollywood action-comedy starring Punjabi singer-songwriter Jazzy B. That’s all we know. And although it opened today, the cinemas showing it have no session times up. Hmmm.

CHAKRAVYUH
India | 146 minutes |Thriller | Director: Prakash Jha
A Bollywood political thriller. Looks good. But that’s all we know. And although it opened today, all the cinemas showing it have no session times available. Hey… wait… didn’t I just say that before? What gives?
I hope you can find a session if you’re keen to see either of the two Bollywood films which (apparently) opened today.
