One of the big sci-fi films of 2013 is Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion. The first trailer released back in December was epic and now a new TV Spot for the film has arrived.

Tom Cruise plays the last man on a decimated, post-alien invasion Earth – a drone repairman ensuring the planet’s remaining resources are transported to humanity’s new home. But with his mission at an end Cruise uncovers a secret that will change everything he knows about the war and fate of mankind.

This new spot condenses the plot into a short action-packed package. Check it out:

I’m really liking the look of this film and the action promises to be intense. The spot doesn’t offer up much else, including shedding light on crash-landed spaceship/mysterious stranger narrative, but with only 30 seconds something had to give and I’m sure there’ll be many more spots to watch.

One thing’s for sure, the film will be visually stunning. The tech in the movie looks great too… and so does Cruise for that matter. Tom certainly has his doubters, but continues to prove he can carry a big budget tentpole flick on his back – Jack Reacher the most recent example.

I do hope Oblivion has some depth to it – something for us sci-fi fans to really sink our teeth into. It would be a shame to waste such an intriguing premise.

Are you looking forward to Oblivion? And are you liking Cruise in the lead role?

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Zoe Bell, Andrea Riseborough, Melissa Leo, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Kiwi Zoe Bell.

Oblivion lands in Kiwi cinemas on 11 April.
