It may not have seen much Oscar love but Silver Linings Playbook won big at the Independent Spirit Awards, held just a day before the Oscars. The David O. Russell film took home Best Film, Best Director, Best Script and Best Actress – it’s been quite the awards season for young Jennifer Lawrence.
Other winners included The Perks of a Wallflower (Best First Feature) and The Sessions, where the incredible performances of John Hawkes and Helen Hunt were recognised (winning Best Male Lead and Best Supporting Female respectively). Meanwhile Michael Haneke‘s Amour picked up another Best International Feature nod.
And former rom-com fave Matthew McConaughey saw some recognition for his reinvented career, taking home Best Supporting Male for Magic Mike. McConaughey was nominated in the Best Male Lead category for his brilliant turn in Killer Joe.
