Over the past couple of weeks Vin Diesel has posted on his Facebook page a few images from the third film in the Riddick franchise, simply titled Riddick. They don’t show too much but give series fans a tease and wet our appetite for some footage. The images feature Riddick sitting on his throne, preparing for combat, and tussling with WWE’s Dave Bautista – who plays one of the “more lethal and violent” mercenaries in the film.

As for the story, this time out Riddick is left for dead on a sun-scorched planet only to find himself hunted by alien predators. His only hope of survival… sending out an emergency beacon – one that attracts mercenaries to the planet who, as it happens, also want a piece of the one-man killing machine.

Writer/Director David Twohy, Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, returns for what promises to be much tighter film than the last outing – hopefully more like the first film. Reprising his role as Necromonger Commander Vaako is Kiwi Karl Urban – whose chin was last seen in Dredd – and Battlestar Galactica favourite Katee Sackhoff joins in the fun as one of the mercs.

Here are the images:

I’m up for another Riddick film… are you?

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Directed by David Twohy, the film stars Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katee Sackoff, Jordi Molla, Dave Bautista, Nolan Gerard Funk, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, Antoinette Kalaj, Keri Hilson, and Neil Napier.

No New Zealand release date has been announced, but expect it to be around 12 September – which is when Australia gets the film.
