“Ever feel like you’re surrounded by Koonts?” It’s been a couple of years since Wellington writer-director Jason Stutter‘s last feature film, Predicament, but Stutter is back with a delightfully un-PC indie comedy about a man with a rather amusing illness.

Bryce Campbell plays Edwin Rouper, a man born with the “serious” neurological condition Koontz-syndrome – making Edwin an incredibly irritating person to be around. We follow Edwin as heĀ attempts to stage a comedy extravaganza to raise awareness of his condition…to be hosted by none other than Mel Gibson. Who wouldn’t want to see that?

Written by Stutter and Kevin Stevens, the film made its world premiere at the recent LA Comedy Festival, where Campbell won Best Actor.

Stutter has been fortunate to work with the country’s best comedians during his career. This time that includes Jeremy Corbett, Dave Fane and Raybon Kan.

Edwin: My Life as a Koont is available for download (and on DVD) from 3 July – go to the film’s website (here) for details.

With a plot that provides free license to use foul language, you can’t you go far wrong – right? This won’t be everyone’s cut of tea, but it looks a film you can enjoy over a beer or two.

Campbell is great as Edwin. His comic timing is impeccable – the supermarket trolley and department store clips make me laugh every time.

Despite his condition, Edwin isn’t completely unlikable. As I discovered on the film’s Facebook page, when Edwin travels he wears branded Australia attire just in case his Koontz plays up – good man.

Can’t wait to see this at the film’s Wellington premiere on 2 July.

You liking the look of this too?
