While many films reserve their Comic-Con promo footage for a lucky few at the annual embrace-your-inner-nerd-fest, the Kick-Ass 2 team released their trailer to the public almost immediately after screening – and, lucky us, it’s the best trailer yet.
This is trailer number four (I think) and finally we get introduced to a few of the film’s bad guys – and girls.
Kick-Ass 2 sees the our heroes Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) struggling to adjust to a normal life after the events in the first film. As more masked heroes arrive on the scene, the badass pairing find themselves donning their costumes once again – teaming up with Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey) and his band of violent-but-merry do-gooders.
Meanwhile Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who saw his gangster father die at the hands of Kick Ass and Hit Girl in the first film, reinvents himself as The Mother F%&*^r (the world’s first supervillain) – recruiting other evil-doers and plotting bloody revenge on Kick Ass. The Mother F%&*^r’s chief enforcers include: Black Death (Daniel Kaluuya), The Tumor (Andy Nyman), and fearsome-looking Mother Russia (Olga Kurkulina).
Jim Carrey recently double-crossed the film, speaking out against its excessive violence. So for all those worried they might tone down the sequel…you can relax – thanks Jim!
Kick Ass 2 opens nationwide on 22 August.
Unofficial rated “Not Safe For Work”, you might want to turn the sound down on this bad boy if you can’t wait.
Despite not having fixed several rather dodgy CGI background shots, I still have high hopes this film will live up to the original.
All the elements are there; and Hit Girl looks even more badass than before – if that’s possible!?!
The success of this film will come down to whether it can develop, and then control, all the new characters thrown in. It’s typical for sequels to up the character count…but often the script suffers as a result.
You still up for Round 2?
