An extended trailer for Thor: The Dark World popped up yesterday, and it’s the best piece of promo so far for the hammer-wielding god’s new adventure in the Marvel universe.

Although it doesn’t contain a lot of new footage, we do get extended scenes that up the intensity of the film. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) once again steals the show, and it appears he must ‘play nice’ to enable Thor to protect the nine realms from plunging into darkness at the hands of an ancient evil.

As if Thor (Chris Hemsworth) didn’t have enough of his plate, while saving the universe he must also has patch up his relationship with Jane (Natalie Portman) – the tougher task perhaps?

So back to Asgard we go. Thor: The Dark World opens 31 October.

The (slightly) extended scenes really do add a lot to the trailer. Why they didn’t use these in the first place, I’ll never know. I love the shot of Loki throwing the furniture around his cell – in true Loki style.

Is it just me but does the ancient race, led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), look like a giant pack of evil tellytubbies – a scarier prospect than dark elves, I must say. And who wouldn’t want to see Thor beat the snot out of Tinky-Winky and the gang?

The more I see, the more I’m getting into this sequel. How about you?

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Directed by Alan Taylor, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander and Rene Russo.
