We’ve been patiently waiting and it’s finally here… the first trailer for Kick-Ass 2. And it looks as brutal, politically incorrect, and entertaining as the original – so it’s appropriate that this trailer’s ‘red band’.

Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) are all grown up – well, sorta. And although Hit Girl was forced to retire young, there are plenty of new masked heroes to keep Kick-Ass company on the streets; none more flamboyant and keen than Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), who has set up a group called Justice Forever.

But Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who’s gangster father was killed by Kick-Ass in the first film, is out for revenge; so he reinvents himself as ‘The Mother F%&*^r’ and aims to become the world’s first super villain. When The Mother F%&*^r recruits his own team of evil-doers, Hit Girl, Kick-Ass and Justice Forever must team up and face the threat head on.

The largely unknown Jeff Wadlow (Cry Wolf, Never Back Down) takes over directing duties from the brilliant Matthew Vaughan. But dispute the unfortunate loss of Vaughan things don’t seem to have missed a beat.

This looks great. As long as it remains true to the spirit of the original, it surely can’t go too far wrong.

The trailer rightly focuses on the original characters, with the exception of Carey’s brilliant (and slightly creepy) Colonel Stars and Stripes – expect him to steal a few scenes. It’s wonderful to see Moretz back as Hit Girl – she looks as badass as ever.

We only catch glimpses of the other new heroes and villains, such as Doctor Gravity (Donald Faison) and Mother Russia (Olga Kurkulina) – who will not doubt engage in a brutal girl-fight with Hit Girl. Expect to see more in coming promo though.

If you loved the first one, you’ll love this. Prepare to have your butt well and truly booted… on August 8th.

Kick ass enough for ya?

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol.

When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist —reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow, the film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jim Carey, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Olga Kurkulina, Morris Chestnut, Clark Duke, Lindy Booth, Yancy Butler and Lyndsy Fonseca.
