Good grief! Most weeks it’s easy to pick just one recommendation; but not so this week. Of the seven films opening today, here are three (yes, three!) we think you should definitely go and see.

First up is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Yes it’s a remake of the Swedish crime thriller, but it’s a David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network) film so that kinda makes it a must see. Our second recommendation is The Descendants, a touching drama starring George Clooney and directed by the dude who brought us the fabulous Sideways and Election. I don’t think you could go too far wrong with this one. Lastly there’s the dark comedy Young Adult. Charlize Theron. Nuff said.

A disgraced journalist investigates the disappearance of a wealthy patriarch’s niece from 40 years ago. He is aided by a pierced and tattooed computer hacker. As they work together in the investigation, the pair uncover immense corruption beyond anything they could ever have imagined.

Land baron Matt is an indifferent husband and father forced to reevaluate life and face some unsettling truths after his wife suffers a coma-inducing boating accident. A personal crisis envelopes Matt, including strained relations with his two daughters and the bombshell revelation that his wife was cheating on him.

Young Adult:

Mavis is a cynical, self-obsessed writer of teenage fiction who returns home to win back her high school crush: Buddy, now happily married and with kids. Buddy isn’t particularly willing though, and having been roundly despised at school Mavis doesn’t get support from her old chums either. The plan goes awry. But she finds help in one former classmate, who hasn’t gotten over his high school years either.
