Stalker, hitman, magnate, shark. No, it’s not the sequel to a Gary Oldman spy thriller, but a sample of the wild variety at the cinema this week. Although tiger sharks hunting supermarket patrons sounds ludicrously entertaining, it’s hard to go past the coolest little stalker film in the world… Wellington’s peeping tom rom-com How to Meet Girls from a Distance.

HOW TO MEET GIRLS FROM A DISTANCE……FILM OF THE WEEK
New Zealand | 85 minutes | Comedy | Director: Dean Hewison (debut feature)
Stalking someone we fancy. We’ve all done it… in some form or other. But it’s time to get off Facebook and head down to the cinema to see this comedy gem about a stalker named Toby, trying to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. Saw this at its world premiere during NZIFF and, like the rest of the cinema, laughed all the way through – great stuff.

BAIT

ALEX CROSS
USA | 101 minutes | Action Thriller | Director: Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, xXx)
Based on the 12th James Patterson novel in the series, Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) faces off against a psychotic mob hitman – played by an almost unrecognisable Matthew Fox. Cross was previously played on screen by Morgan Freeman, in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, so Perry was a somewhat controversial choice (at least among fans) as the homicide detective/psychologist.
