In ‘state the obvious’ news, Lionsgate has announced The Expendables 2 will be blasting its way to our screens next year. All your favourite 80’s action stars will return, alongside their wannabe successors. One of my favourite film sites, Firstshowing.net, is at the Cannes Film Festival and discovered this poster in one of the many Cannes magazines. Check out the poster below. Sylvestor Stallone will not be directing this time around, but the new director is yet to be announced. Although the cast has also yet to be announced, the film is likely to feature Sylvestor Stallone, Jason Statham (The Transporter), Jet Li (Lethal Weapon 4), Dolph Lundgren (Rocky 4), Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Steve Austin (an actual wrestler) and Randy Couture (the mix martial artist). The Expendables didn’t really do it for me in the way I thought it would – i.e. grab me by the throat and throw me repeatedly against a brick wall (in a good way, of course). Having said that, watching it again recently on a plane back from Sydney, I did enjoy more the second time around. There’s some great action set pieces and I suppose that’s all you should really ask for from it.
