Of the three Green Lantern trailers that have come out, only one has convinced me I should probably watch the film. Unfortunately, it’s not this final trailer.

The CGI in this trailer still looks a bit ropey, which is a concern. Some of the scenes remind me of Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (Galactus in particular) which, again, is not a good thing. Having said that it could just as easily turn out to be a blast and, by the looks of it, Green Lantern won’t lack for plenty of action. What more could you want from a Hollywood Superhero flick?

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, who I have a newfound respect for after watching his sensational turn in Buried not so long ago. He’s back in Hollywood mode for this one though; however he’s doing his best to convince us that his turn as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern will be anything but ‘Hollywood light’. Reynolds told the LA Times “It’s about courage versus fearlessness and the power of willpower and the need for sacrifice and service. This is not a comedy film but like Han Solo or an Indiana Jones, there are moments where you smile and the hero can trades lines with anybody.” A bold statement, Mr Reynolds.

Green Lantern has another Kiwi connection too. If you listen carefully, you may recognise a certain Kiwi twang coming from the mouth of one of the characters. Temuera Morrison plays Abin Sur – the alien who crash-lands on Earth and gives the ring to Hal.

Of the vast number of the Superhero movies coming out, this character  is probably the one I want to see most. Hopefully the film will be better than the trailers.

In the Green Lantern, a test pilot (Hal Jordan) is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

The film stars Ryan Reynolds (Buried, The Proposal), Blake Lively (The Town), Peter Sarsgaard (Flight Plan) and the great Mark Strong (Kick Ass). Some serious voice talent is also provided by Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile) and Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption). Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royal).

Green Lantern opens in New Zealand on June 16 and in the US on June 17.

Are you going to see Green Lantern? Which upcoming Superhero/Comic Book film are you most interested in?
