A wrong is done. Revenge is taken. That’s about sums up Colombiana from look of this first trailer, and all we really need to know when it comes to a film that has Luc Besson’s stamp on it. This time instead of Liam Neeson we have the talented and beautiful Zoe Saldana kick’n all kinds of ass. And in the ensemble cast of ‘I’ve seen them before but I can’t remember where’ actors is our very own Cliff Curtis.

Taken, also produced by Luc Besson, was a great film. Simple, hokey, paper thin plot but top-notch action and a perfectly cast lead (Neeson) provided brilliant ‘leave your brain at the door’ fare. I expect this to be very similar, and judging by this first trailer the film’s going to be equally the ride Taken was.

Zoe Saldana has lit up our screens a fair bit recently with her turns as Uhura in Star Trek, Neytiri in Avatar and Aisha in The Losers – so we know she can do action. Cliff Curtis looks like he’s getting to show us once again that he can put on an accent and play foreign. Is there a nationality he hasn’t played?

Here’s the trailer. Enjoy!

A young woman (Zoe Saldana), after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle (Cliff Curtis) as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.

Colombiana is directed by Oliver Megaton (Transporter 3) and stars Zoe Saldana, Cliff Curtis, Michael Vartan (from TV’s Alias), Callum Blue (from TV’s Smallville) and Jordi Molia (Bad Boys 2).

Colombiana is due for release in the US on 26 August and should be out in New Zealand sometime in September – keep checking our release dates page.

I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to this. What do you think of the trailer? What’s your favourite Luc Besson film? Mine’s definitely Leon.
