In a word… ‘Whoa!’ I recently discovered this gem of a trailer on one of my favourite film blogs from the States. Take Shelter stars the brilliant character actor Michael Shannon as a man plaqued by apocolyptic visions – visions which begin to destroy his relationships and himself. Is he going mad? Or is he getting a warning about something truly horrific about to happen?

The film recently won the Critics Week Grand Prize award at the this year’s Cannes Film Festival and also received great reviews out of Sundance. This really does look phenomenal and definitely appeals to my ‘dark and gritty indie’ side. It’s a ‘must watch’ in my book. What do you think?

You may recgonise Michael Shannon from his work in Revolutionary Road and TV’s Boardwalk Empire. Michael is set to become a regular feature on our screens in the coming year with his roles as General Zod in Zach Snyder’s Superman reboot Man of Steel and as a contract killer in the film Iceman. After watching an old film of Michael’s recently, the underrated Bug, this role in Take Shelter was made for him. Enjoy!

Plagued by a series of apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father questions whether to shelter his family from a coming storm, or from himself.

Directed by Jeff Nichols, Take Shelter stars Michael Shannon, indie actress of the moment Jessica Chastain (Tree of Life) and Shea Whigham (TV’s Boardwalk Empire).

Take Shelter is due for general release in the States on 7 October. A New Zealand release date is yet to be set.

Pretty cool trailer huh? A must see for you?
