Hot off the press comes the first ‘teaser’ trailer for The Iron Lady; providing us with our first look at Academy Award Winner Meryl Streep as former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. As the film is all about ‘Maggie’, what better way to introduce itself to the world than to simply introduce ‘The Iron Lady’ herself. Perfect.

Streep is a phenomenal actor and definitely looks the part here. Given her ability to embody any character she plays, this should be a brilliant watch – whether you’re politically minded or not. Helen Mirren as the Queen and now Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher – they sure know how to cast their biopics in the UK.

I don’t have a polictical bone in my body but I’m already looking forward to the next trailer (which says a lot!) where we’ll get to introduced to the story (the price Thatcher paid for her rise to power) and meet the all-star cast, which includes the wonderful Jim Broadbent as Maggie’s husband Denis.

It’s very early days but I have a feeling someone should tell ‘The Academy’ to start engraving… ‘MERYL STREEP – BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE’.

Enjoy!

The Iron Lady tells the compelling story of Margaret Thatcher, a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and intimate portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.

Written by award-winning writer Abi Morgan (Sex Traffic, Brick Lane, White Girl), directed by Phyllida Lloyd CBE (Mamma Mia!) and produced by Damian Jones (The History Boys, Adulthood), The Iron Lady stars Meryl Streep (Kramer vs Kramer, Julie and Julia), Jim Broadbent (The Harry Potter series, Bridget Jones’ Diary), Harry Lloyd (Jane Eyre, TV’s Game of Thrones) and Alexandra Roach. The rest of the cast of family and friends, politicians and advisers, is made up of the very best of British acting talent, including: Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz), Susan Brown, Roger Allam (The Queen), Anthony Head (TV’s Little Britian), Richard E Grant (Withnail & I). Julian Wadham, Pip Torrens, Nick Dunning, David Westhead, Angus Wright and John Sessions.

The Iron Lady will be released in the States on 16 December and hits our shores on 26 December. Surprisingly the UK won’t get to see it until 6 January, 2012 (huh?).

Will you be going to see The Iron Lady? What’s your favourite Meryl Streep film?
