Here’s the first official photo from Young Adult, the upcoming film from the team who brought us Juno. Charlize Theron (Monster) plays a writer of teen literature, returning to her small hometown to reconnect with her past and try to reclaim her happily married high school love.

As far as first images go this one isn’t completely inspiring, but what looks and sounds like a rom-com, writer Diablo Cody describes as “pretty serious and fucked up”; with director Jason Reitman saying that Theron’s character will be heavy on narcissism and totally unlikable.

It sounds like the writer of Juno and Jennifer’s Body knows a thing or two about teen literature.  According to Paste Magazine Cody’s also working on bringing Francine Pascal’s much loved Sweet Valley High to the big screen. The series, which centred on twins living in California, produced 150 books over twenty years and spawned several spin-off series, a questionable TV show, and a board game which I can personally recommend.

Would you be interested in a film by the folks who made Juno? How about a Sweet Valley High movie? How about a Sweet Valley High movie based on the Sweet Valley High board game?

Written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman. Young Adult stars Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt (The King of Queens), Patrick Wilson (Little Children) and Elizabeth Reaser (The Twilight Saga).
