Shirley Bassey, Nancy Sinatra, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow and Madonna – just a few of the women who’ve had the honour of performing the title track to a Bond film. And now we can add Adele to that list of famous female voices.

It was officially confirmed over the weekend that the “Someone Like You” British songstress was chosen to write and perform the theme for Bond’s latest outing, Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty). Rumour has it the track will a full length song called “Skyfall” – the first tune of the Daniel Craig era to match the title of the film. With a voice as incredible as Adele’s this track could well be up there with the best Bond tunes of all time.

Also over the weekend, several new Skyfall posters were released – at least in the UK and US. I really like the one of Bond looking disheveled. Let us know your favourite.

Note: these are UK and US posters where Skyfall comes out on October 26 and November 9, respectively. Unfortunately we have to wait a bit longer to see the film – but not too long. November 22 is when 007 returns to New Zealand.

Is Adele a great choice for the title track?

In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the film stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Helen McCrory, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and Berenice Marlohe.

Skyfall hits New Zealand screens on November 22, 2012.
