You will know her name. One of the few remakes I’m looking forward to is Carrie. The blood-soaked first image of Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo, Kick-Ass) as Carrie White in August was a great start and this stylishly macabre poster continues the bloody theme nicely. And shows again why Moretz is the perfect choice for the lead – that girl knows how to do creepy.
As I’ve mentioned before, this film conquers my remake phobia for two reasons: Moretz and director Kimberly Peirce (Boy’s Don’t Cry). Despite her young age Moretz is an incredible talent. She chooses interesting, often edgy, roles and has proven she knows how to pick a good remake – with Let Me In. And in Peirce we have a director who can do character drama and knows how to get the best out of her lead actress – just ask Oscar winner Hilary Swank. So signs are good that this film should be more than just cheap scares and a watered-down Hollywood cash grab.
In an interesting little tid-bit from the guys at Firstshowing, this poster debuted at New York Comic Con on the weekend and was called an “international” poster – not normally the first poster released. Most likely it done to avoid the overly sensitive Motion Picture Association of America refusing to approve it.
So now the poster is out, will we be seeing some footage soon? I sure hope so.
Is this one remake you’re keen to see? What’s been Chloe Grace Moretz’s best role so far?
Directed by Kimberly Peirce, the films stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde, Alex Russell, Max Topplin, Portia Doubleday, Conner Price, Skyler Wexler and Ansel Elgort.
No New Zealand release date has been announced. Australia gets the film on March 14 next year, so I’d imagine we’ll get it on the same date.
