Director:

Ramin Bahrani

Cast:

Michael B. Jordan, Michael Shannon, Sofia Boutella

Synopsis:

Based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel of the same name, the film depicts an alternate tomorrow where media is an opiate, facts and history are rewritten and “firemen” burn books. Michael B Jordan portrays Montag, a young fireman who begins to question his beliefs and turns against his friend and mentor, Captain Beatty, played by Michael Shannon. Sofia Boutella stars as Clarisse, an informant for Beatty who also fights to save books and encourages Montag to change.

Thoughts:

A solid film … sums this up nicely. Shannon, who I adore as an actor, and Jordan are both great – as you’d expect – but you realise not long into the film that the unremarkable script is letting them down. I’m not sure how close to the novel the script is, but I’m somewhat intrigued to find out.

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad film. It’s just not one I’d rush out to see.
