A new video blog from the set of The Hobbit films is now online. This time we get to see Sir Peter Jackson and the team scouting stunning locations around New Zealand and also discover what the cast and crew are going to do with their hard-earned break. Jackson, of course, is using his break to continue working on the films – what else would we expect? We also get to see Andy Serkis, who we know and love as Gollum, in his new role as Second Unit Director. What a sensationally talented man he is.

I really like the way the blog lets us see just how exhausting it is to shoot films of this scale – especially when the shoot is 254 days long! Mind you, I’m sure any filmmaker or film crew could tell just how exhausting it is to shoot any film no matter how large or small, but it’s cool to see them acknowledge it here and not just constantly talk about how amazing it is to work on something like this.

My favourite part of this blog is getting to see them fly around in their helicopters, Apocalypse Now-style, and scout the most scenic locations our country has to offer. Jealous much?… Why yes, I am!

The video blog is something Jackson employed on The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s a great way for fans to get a sneak peak of the film as it’s being made and for the producers to build hype, to ensure the movie does well at the box office (as if that’s in any doubt!).

I’m really looking forward to The Hobbit movies and Jackson’s return to Middle Earth. Are you?

Enjoy!
