Along with reboots, remakes and prequels, Hollywood seems to be obsessed with bringing us a billion different trailers for each blockbuster it’s trying to promote. This is suppose to help with a film’s hype but sadly it’s often just the same footage re-cut in a different way which, to me, has the opposite effect.
So after the teaser trailer, the full trailer, the second full trailer and the international trailer, comes the final trailer for the much anticipated Rise of the Planet of the Apes – a prequel to the original Planet of the Apes series (and hopefully a film that ignores the Tim Burton disaster from 2001). I have to say I haven’t been fussed on any of the previous trailers, but this one is definitely the best of the bunch – or should I say the best of the re-edits (which makes you wonder how they got it so wrong with the previous ones?).
The film still looks a little mainstream and watered-down than what I was hoping from it, but it does look more like they are trying to provide a decent back-story to go with what looks like a decent amount of action. Ceaser will definitely be the star of the show and adult Ceaser’s special effects work is simply stunning – hard not to be when Andy Serkis and New Zealand’s own Weta Digital are involved.
Whether the film is actually any good or not, I’ll still be going to see it because two of my favourite actors, John Lithgow and Brian Cox, are in it. Actually, the whole cast is pretty good; with James Franco, Freida Pinto and that evil kid from the Harry Potter series.
Let’s hope Rise of the Planet of the Apes doesn’t become another Hollywood nightmare and yet another case of ‘Why did they have to go there?’ – or should that be ‘Why did they have to go there… again!?!’ We’ll find out soon enough.
Enjoy!

Directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist), the film stars James Franco (127 Hours, Pineapple Express), Tom Felton (the Harry Potter series), Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), Andy Serkis (the Lord of the Rings trilogy), Brian Cox (X-Men 2, Big Fish), John Lithgow (Shrek, TV’s Third Rock from the Sun), Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs Evil), David Hewlett (Cube) and David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland)
So what do you think of the final trailer? Do you think Hollywood should have gone there again?
