At Admit One we love our ‘Don’t Watch’ trailers, showcasing some of the worst movies the industry has to offer. These trailers are seriously entertaining, although in a slightly different application of the word. So, with that in mind, we bring you the first shipwreck of a trailer for Battleship – a film based on the beloved children’s board game. Yes, you heard me right, a film based on the board game Battleship.
And how does one go about creating a story from a game that has no story, you might ask? Chuck a few aliens at it, apparently. I think you’re already getting the idea of just how bad this trailer is. Clearly Peter Berg (Hancock) is trying to give Michael Bay a run for his money when it comes to blowing hundreds of millions of dollars on utter shlock.
Battleship tells the story of… wait, no, what’s the point… just watch the trailer (or don’t watch it, as we recommmend).
$200 million USD was spent on this film. Can you believe it? The special effects aren’t nearly as good as Transformers and if Transformers was cheese, then Battleship makes it look like Roquefort. I laughed out loud at the wafer-thin tie-in to the board game – a board-like setting created by the alien force field and the aliens firing peg-like objects into the side of one of the ships. Good grief!
I can understand why wannabe actors Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna would want to be in this movie, but Liam Neeson? Does he owe Peter Berg money or something?
Ok, I’m being really harsh and we haven’t seen the final film yet, but the trailer certainly doesn’t help its cause and at this early stage Battleship is looking a shoe in for ‘Turkey of the Year, 2012’.
So what did you think of the trailer? Shipwreck or Flagship?
Directed by Peter Berg, the film stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Kitsch, Josh Pence, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna.
Battleship sails into our ports sometime around its US release date of 18 May, 2012.
