So here’s one of the coolest, most interesting trailers around. Like Crazy comes from Drake Doremus (Douchebag) and stars the awesome Felicity Jones (Cemetery Junction). I’m so into the guerilla style shooting, the film’s reported $250,000 budget and the ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ covered cherry on top.
Anton Yelchin (Fright Night, Star Trek) and Jones play college students in love, who are separated when she violates the terms of her U.S visa. Like Crazy follows the couple’s struggle to keep their relationship together with an eight hour flight between them. Watch the trailer and see why this film won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Dramatic Film at Sundance this year.
As much as can be judged in two minutes, the lead performances here look rock solid. Jones in particular is in fine form, right at home with the intimate environment and slower pacing. Filmed on a relatively cheap SLR camera, with a semi-improvised script, this trailer makes me think of a younger, more hopeful Blue Valentine; with its subtle acting and story like an antidote to the constant stream of blockbuster Hollywood fare (I’m looking at you Transformers & Co.).
“Like Crazy, a beautiful, heartbreaking story of long distance love came out of Sundance like a bullet, with incredible buzz, a Grand Jury Prize, a distributor and more. But as is the case with an obvious awards contender like this, it laid dormant for a few months, waiting for the right time to re-emerge and take Hollywood to task for so many soulless, summer blockbusters.” /Film
