The Admit One crew can’t get enough Moonrise Kingdom – although we’re hoping they don’t go all Prometheus on us with 40 trailers and viral every 5 minutes. However, four amusing featurettes narrated by actor Bob Balaban have appeared in the past week. Delivered in a very deadpan but charming style they introduce us to the director and some of the lead actors, in true Wes Anderson style.

If Bob Balaban seems familiar, that’s because he’s been around the traps for decades playing various minor character roles in movies, including Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Ghost World and 2010. He also played Phoebe’s dad on TV’s Friends.

Moonrise Kingdom debuted at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday to positive reviews. But make no mistake, this will be a very Wes Anderson film. So if you’re not a fan, it won’t be for you. But good on you for making it this far.

Enjoy!

And as an added bonus, here’s the short ‘Making of’ featurette from a few weeks back…

Were you charmed and amused by the featurette style? Bill Murray is a true legend (Not a question. Just a statement.).

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.

Written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, and directed by Wes Anderson, the film stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, Harvey Keitel, Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman.

We’ll get to see Moonrise Kingdom from 30 August.
