The first shot from inside the ark on the set of Darren Aronofsky‘s biblical epic Noah has been posted on Twitter by cinematographer Matthew Libatique. The set lights on the floor of the Ark’s dark innards reveal large piles of snakes and an alligator, or is it a crocodile? – where’s an Irwin when you need one?
So why are there so many snakes on this Ark? I guess we’ll have to watch the film to find out – although I suspect it could be two of every single species. It’s hard to tell if they’re real or not. Regardless, there are enough of the slithering reptiles to induce an expletive-filled rant from Samuel L. Jackson.
Libatique worked as Director of Photography on Aronofsky’s Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain and Pi, so you know this film’s going to look the business and have a very distinctive style. Of course this image is not a reflection of that, but it’s cool to see shots from the set.
I am really looking forward to Noah. I’m a huge Aronofsky fan. And this is the biggest budget he’s had to play with, so I can’t wait to see what he’s able to do with a little (make that a lot) of extra cash.
Noah stars Russell Crowe (as Noah), Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, and Ray Winstone, among others, and is scheduled to be released in the States on March 28, 2014. No doubt we’ll get it around that time too.
If you don’t like snakes, look away now!
And in case you’ve not seen it before, here’s the first official image of Russell Crowe as Noah:
