He’s loved by some. He’s hated by many. But you have to take your hat off to Michael Bay. No one can pack more carnage into 2 hours of celluloid than Mr Bay.

You have to laugh though when, after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Michael commented that he wasn’t happy with the film and that he was going to tone things down for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Well, here’s the result. Toned down?!? Really? This looks more like Transformers 2 on steroids. Again my hat’s off to you, Sir.

Now you know when you go to see a Transformers film you’re going to get eye-popping, brain-exploding action. This time around it looks like instead of destroying every vehicle known to man, Michael Bay is going to destroy the entire planet – alien invasion style! But would we expect anything less?

Transformers: Dark of the Moon’s special effects look spectacular. The building collapse sequence in particular. That scene alone makes me want to go see it. But I’m sad that way. I have to say I enjoyed Transformers 2, way more so than the first one (queue the throwing of tomatoes from film fans and critics alike). If you’re going to do a balls-out, special effects-laden action film, then go nuts I say!

New to the franchise this year are actors John Malkovich, Patrick Dempsey and Francis McDormand. There’s much talent there and all are good on screen – although I doubt they’ll get much to work with in the way of diaolouge. Also new this year is Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who replaces Megan Fox (Was she pushed? Did she quit? Who cares!?!) – so the eye-candy quota is not lost. But the biggest casting surprise is Leonard Nimoy, who will voice Sentinel Prime – the predecessor to Optimus Prime and former leader of the Autobots.

Enjoy the trailer!

In Transformers: Dark of the Moon the Autobots, lead by Optimus Prime, learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and learn its secrets – secrets which could turn the tide in the Transformers’ final battle.

The film has a array of acting and voice acting talent including Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Hugo Weaving, Patrick Dempsey, Leonard Nimoy, Francis McDormand, John Turturro and John Malkovich.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon hits New Zealand on June 30, before it’s released in the States on July 1 – Yes!

I’ll be there to see this opening weekend. Will you? Let me know what you think of the trailer? And of Michael Bay, while you’re at it.
