Part of Universal‘s centennial celebration includes the full restoration of 13 of their classic films. One of these is Steven Spielberg‘s Jaws – a sensational film that plays as well today as it did in 1975. Jaws will be released on Blu-ray in August (hopefully in New Zealand at the same time) and a featurette on the restoration process has just been released. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the work required to rejuvenate this classic.

Enjoy!

Universal’s passion for film preservation comes across strongly and it’s great to gain an insight into how these films are restored: how they deal with imperfections on the negative, how it can take 3-4 hours to restore a single frame and, best of all, how they create a new negative (not just keep a digital copy). Nice work!

I love Jaws and own it on DVD. But after seeing this I will definitely be upgrading to the Blu-ray version. Some films are worth the extra expense.

So will you be buying Jaws on Blu-ray?
