The fabulous Finding Nemo 3D landed in theatres last week. The next DisneyPixar classic to get the 3D treatment is my absolute favourite: Monsters, Inc. Awesome! The first trailer and a highly amusing poster for Monsters, Inc. 3D have arrived and I’m already looking forward to re-living the adventures of Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. ‘Sulley’ Sullivan (John Goodman) on the big screen.

As you recall, Mike and Sulley – monster mates and champion scarers of children – get themselves into a spot of bother when they inadvertently let the adorable Boo (Mary Gibbs) loose in Monstropolis while competing for the all-time scare record against the delightfully devious Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi). 92 minutes of digitally-animated hilarity result!

Monsters, Inc. was originally released on November 2, 2001. The film and director Pete Docter were both nominated for Academy Awards. Docter later won an Oscar for Up in 2009.

Doesn’t this remind you of all the great moments in Monsters, Inc.? The script is tight and funny, and the voice acting is superb. They could’ve done more with the trailer though, like adding a new clip – maybe Mike trying on his 3D glasses (like the poster below – which is brilliant). No doubt this is just the first of many promos, so hopefully there will be more inventive stuff later on. Regardless, I love this film and will be seeing it opening day. Will you?

And don’t forget Monsters University arrives a few months later (June 2013). Now that would be a great double-header!

Who’s your favourite Monsters, Inc. monster? What other digitally-animated films would you like to see in 3D – or even in 2D – on the big screen again?

“Monsters, Inc.,” one of Disney•Pixar’s most beloved and visually imaginative feature films ever, returns to the big screen to delight a whole new generation of audiences and fans alike, this time in stunning 3D. The now-classic Academy Award®-winning animated comedy adventure “Monsters, Inc.” is set in Monstropolis, a thriving company town where monsters of all shapes and sizes reside. Lovable Sulley (voiced by John Goodman) and his wisecracking best friend Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) are the top scare team at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory. The main power source in the monster world is the collected screams of human children—and at Monsters, Inc., an elite team of scarers is responsible for gathering those precious natural resources. Believed by monsters to be toxic, children are strictly forbidden from entering Monstropolis. But when a little girl named Boo (voiced by Mary Gibbs) accidentally follows Sulley back into his world, he finds his career in jeopardy and his life in utter chaos. So pals Mike and Sulley plot to rectify the mistake and return Boo to her home. But when the trio encounters an unexpected series of complications, they become embroiled in a cover-up catapulting them into a mystery beyond their wildest dreams.

Directed by Peter Docter, the film’s voice talent includes John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Mary Gibbs, Steve Buscemi, James Coburn, Jennifer Tilly, Bob Peterson, John Ratzenberger, Frank Oz and Bonnie Hunt.

Monsters, Inc. 3D screams back into theatres on January 17, 2013.
