With super-talented Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo) in the lead and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) directing, I’m confident that Carrie will be one of the few recent remakes to break the mould. But I still took a nervous breath before hitting play when this teaser trailer appeared last night. I needn’t have – it’s ‘bloody’ brilliant.

Most of us know the Stephen King book and original film well – a young girl with telekinetic powers wreaks a terrible revenge when pushed too far by her fanatically religious mother and spiteful school bullies. So this teaser needs little introduction. It’s short but epic: an eerie bird’s-eye view of a town in flames, swooping down to reveal our blood-soaked anti-heroine…

…now that’s how to make an entrance! Even in that glimpse of Carrie White you just know Moretz has nailed it. Frightening yet innocent, on the edge of madness yet terrifyingly in control. Perfect… and captivatingly creepy.

This film’s gonna be great – I can feel it my bones.

You lovin’ this as much as me?

Carrie White is an outcast amongst her high school peers due to her mother’s extreme religious beliefs. Upon discovering hidden telekinetic abilities, she uses her newly-developed powers to take revenge against her tormenters at the senior prom.

Directed by Kimberly Peirce, the films stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde, Alex Russell, Max Topplin, Portia Doubleday, Conner Price, Skyler Wexler and Ansel Elgort.

No New Zealand release date has been announced. Australia gets the film on March 14 next year, so I’d imagine we’ll get it on the same date.
