Fear not, Ryan Gosling hasn’t had a run in with a jealous husband or boyfriend, it’s just a promo poster for his new flick Only God Forgives. The striking image signals that this second collaboration with director Nicolas Winding Refn will continue the pair’s brutal portrayal of violence on screen.
Following on from their hit, Drive – the slick, retro-styled action-thriller… and coolest film of 2011 – Only God Forgives sees the Gosling and Refn dive back into the seedy underworld of crime, this time in Thailand.
Gosling plays a kickboxer-turned-gangster who must fight to avenger the murder of his brother. This doesn’t sound all that unique but with Refn at the helm, you know this will be no ordinary ride. Refn has also penned the script.
There’s no doubt Gosling will look the part. I wonder if he’ll continue to sport a shiny 80s-esque jacket?
Only God Forgives is currently in post-production. There’s no release date yet – although I expect we’ll see this mid-late 2013.
Will Gosling and Refn be able to top Drive?
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the film stars Ryan Gosling, Kristen Scott Thomas, Tom Burke, Yayaying, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and Vithaya Pansringarm.
