“Is there anything you would not do for your family?” A new trailer for J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek Into Darkness has arrived and it’s intense, action-packed stuff. But for fans hoping it’d reveal the true identity of Benedict Cumberbatch‘s villain, you’re outta luck…  for this is yet another teaser.

The teaser certainly throws out plenty more hints – or are they red herrings? The homage to the ending of Wrath of Khan (where Spock says his goodbye’s to Kirk) from the original Japanese teaser has been included. And when you add Benedict’s voiceover about family to last week’s announcement that Alice Eve‘s character is Dr Carol Marcus (Kirk’s baby mama from Wrath), you have a lot of fuel poured on the ‘Cumberbatch is Khan’ fire.

But Abrams loves to play games and Cumberbatch was adamant in a recent interview that he’s not playing Khan. So I guess we won’t know until the full trailer arrives… perhaps.

Anyway, back to the teaser. What we do know is that this film is going to be epic. It looks likes Kirk’s confidence (or should that be arrogance) is going to get the crew of the Enterprise into big trouble. And in blockbuster-land, big trouble equals big action. We see starships crashing, buildings in ruin, a volcano erupting and the crew of the Enterprise jumping of buildings and cliff-tops.

If only we knew what it was all about…

I’m still lovin’ the look of the Star Trek sequel, but it would be nice to know the motivation of the characters… even if it’s not revealed who they are. I guess I want to know this because the two teasers have been that damn good; so the Marketing Department at Paramount have done their job well – even if they did borrow a little from the likes of Man of Steel.

There is one character I really fear for in this film, and that’s Chekov (Anton Yelchin). The guy’s seen wearing a red shirt! And for those who know Star Trek, you know what that means…
