The 2013 BAFTAs (a.k.a. The EE British Academy Film Awards) wrapped up in London this morning, with Ben Affleck‘s Argo emerging victorious. Winning Best Picture and Best Director yet again, Argo has been on an awards tear of late. Inexplicably Affleck missed out on a Best Director Oscar nod, so it’s almost like the rest of the industry is giving the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences the middle finger. Affleck was typically humble in his acceptance speech but must be absolutely stoked with his well deserved recognition.
Other big winners included Oscar shoe-ins Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), winning for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively. Meanwhile Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) and Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) served Oscar notice with wins for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress.
In other categories, The Imposter took home Best Documentary and, not surprisingly, Skyfall picked up Best British Film.
Stephen Fry was an eloquent and hilarious host. Even when he takes the mick out of someone, he does it with such style the rest of the audience probably wish he would pick them next.
Although we don’t typically comment on fashion here, I just wanted to tip my hat to Helen Mirren and her pink hair. Only she could make a teen starlett look so classy. Kudos, Helen.
