A side-splitting new trailer for Monsters University has arrived and it’s jam-packed with great laughs and University tomfoolery. In between the gags we learn more about the rivalry between Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) before they became friends – Mike had dreams of becoming a champion scarer once too.

The thing that brings our two animated chums together as best buddies is still being kept largely under warps. Aside from rescuing their graduation prospects after their competitive spirit gets out of hand, it looks like they might have to stop a secret evil as well. What could it be?

Love it. Love it. Love it.

There’s so much to enjoy here. The sheer array of monsters for one – including plenty of Monsters, Inc. alums. Tell me the ‘late for class’ gag didn’t put a smile on your face.

Goodman and Crystal have slipped back into their roles with ease and it looks like we’re in for another rollicking adventure – even though we all know how it ends.

Pixar had a misstep with Cars 2, but this sequel should set that right. Can’t wait for 11 June.

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

Directed by Dan Scanlon, the film features the voice talent of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Ken Jeong, John Goodman, John Ratzenberger, Joel Murray, Kelsey Grammer, Rob Riggle and Frank Oz.

Monsters University opens in New Zealand cinemas on 11 June in 3D and 2D.
