Synopsis:

Based on real events, A HIDDEN LIFE is the story of an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife, Fani, and children that keeps his spirit alive.

Thoughts:

If you’re not a Terrance Malick fan, then this film will not change your mind. Personally, I love his films and for me this is one of his best.

It goes without saying that the film is absolutely stunning, but more than that the story, characters and character arcs really shine – and are definitely the star of the show. I came out of the cinema moved.

Helped by a slightly more linear storyline than other Malick films, A HIDDEN LIFE should have a much wider appeal.

9/10
