Cannes 2019 is in the bag and, as it does year-on-year, this greatest festival of them all served up some incredible films – ones I can’t wait for you all to see. This year’s line-up was stronger than last year’s, in my humble opinion.
PARASITE deservedly one the Palme d’Or; made even sweeter by the fact this is a true genre pic. I hope it doesn’t take too long for this to arrive in cinemas.
The two hidden gems of Cannes this year, that you most definitely need to hunt out are DEERSKIN and LES MISERABLES. Films that polar opposites on paper, but both deserve your full attention. I didn’t get to see THE LIGHTHOUSE (queued up three times!) but I hear that’s sensational too.
Not so hidden was A HIDDEN LIFE. Terrance Malick’s latest didn’t disappoint, and a welcome return to form for the master.
As always, check out my reviews on the site, especially those high on the list below. Can’t wait for you to see these films, and I can’t wait for Cannes 2020 already.
