No one does ‘quirky indie’ quite like Wes Anderson. Fascinating characters, intelligent scripts and smart visual styling are all hallmarks of his work, which includes such gems as: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Darjeeling Limited.

This time out Wes brings us a story of young love in Moonrise Kingdom. Set in a small town on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960’s, two twelve-year-olds fall head over heels in love and decide to run off into the wilderness together. With a violent storm approaching, and the lovebirds missing, the townsfolk get in quite the panic.

The ensemble cast is incredible. New to the Anderson family this time around are Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Ed Norton (Fight Club), Tilda Swinton (The Chronicles of Narnia), Frances McDormand (Fargo), Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction), and newbies Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman. But two of his favourites have returned with Bill Murray (Ghostbusters) and Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) joining in the fun.

Enjoy!

I love how the visual style is almost a character in itself.  The sensational cast look perfectly at home and you can count on Bill Murray being worth the price of admission alone. That guy owns funny!

Wes Anderson’s films are generally loved or hated, but I reckon this story will appeal to a much broader audience.

So are you a Wes Anderson fan and looking forward to his latest outing? Who’s your favourite Wes character?

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.

Written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, and directed by Wes Anderson, the film stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, Harvey Keitel, Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman.

We’ll get to see Moonrise Kingdom in 2012 but no official release date has been announced. Stay tuned!
